By Tom Breihan for Pitchfork:
Unknown Pleasures, the 1979 album from Joy Division, is already a pretty dark and unhinged piece of work; more than 30 years after its release, "She's Lost Control" still reliably raises goosebumps. But in a couple of months, the album could possibly get even darker and more unhinged. That's because art-pop titans Deerhoof and Xiu Xiu are teaming up to cover the LP live in its entirety. On 05/10/05, Deerhoof played Soundlab with Needel and Ho-ag. Joy Division's bassist, Peter Hook, played a DJ set at Soundlab on 10/01/05. Mark Webb, Thee Donnie Shaft and Snackboy were also on the bill.
The big event will take place April 29 in Krems, Austria as part of Donaufestival, which runs April 28-May 8. Other performers include Panda Bear, Dan Deacon, Rufus Wainwright, Fuck Buttons, Wolf Parade, Peaches, and Alec Empire and the Ex.
